Food for Groups
The restaurant on the Dove Cottage site is called, “Villa Colombina” (Dove Cottage in Italian) and it provides excellent food to suit all tastes. The head chef, Michael Metcalfe, is keen to stress the importance of freshness, personal preparation and presentation.
Daytime visitors can enjoy traditional English meals and snacks using locally sourced ingredients. When you arrive, you can expect to be titillated by the aromas of cakes and scones baking, fresh coffee brewing or delicious meals being prepared.
TEAS
Cream Tea: £6.00 - Pot of tea, two freshly baked scones, served with butter, Cumbrian clotted cream and locally sourced strawberry jam.
Afternoon Tea (served anytime): £9.00 - Cakes and sandwiches are presented in the traditional manner using a serving plate and cake stand. Pot of tea, sandwiches on locally baked white and wholemeal bread including the following fillings:
- Local ham with award-winning whole grain honey mustard, garnished with pickled vegetables
- Wensleydale cheese with a salad leaf garnish
- Lightly smoked salmon with a cucumber garnish
- Organic egg mayonnaise with a garnish of cress.
Freshly baked scone with Cumbrian clotted cream and locally sourced strawberry jam Cake or famous Grasmere gingerbread. N.B. All tea served at Villa Colombina is made with high quality loose tea in the traditional manner using a china teapot.
LUNCHES
Delicious hot or cold fixed price lunches are available for groups comprising either starter and main course or main course and dessert. For the hungrier traveller, three course lunches are also available. If you have any special dietary requirements, or special requests, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Two courses: £8.50
Three courses: £10.00
Starters include:
- Homemade soup of the day with fresh bread and butter
- Local ham with a green salad
- Mixed salad with crusty fresh bread and butter
Main courses include:
- Grilled fillet of Ullswater trout served with a tossed leaf salad
- Cottage Pie with seasonal vegetables
- Spaghetti Bolognaise
- Sliced breast of chicken, served in a sauce with seasonal vegetables
- Traditional fish, chips and mushy peas, served with a salad garnish, tartare sauce and lemon wedge
Desserts include:
- Crème Brulee
- A variety of locally made ice creams
- Strawberry Possit Selection of cakes and pastries
